27 Dress-Ups 01: Pegging Prim and Proper

Hey everyone! Feels good to be blogging again!

Got my very first parcel yesterday! I ordered 3 tops and a vest from an online shop for the very first time also last week and my orders arrived when I was sleeping last Saturday. Imagine my half-dazed surprise when I woke up and a torn parcel was beside my pillow already. Mom got excited and carried away so she ripped em up herself when it arrived, according to her. Haha.

Was quite disappointed with the peach top there tho. It was white in the photo and yet it arrived that way. Haha. Anyway, they're all so pretty and fab so it's okay! And they were such a bargain! I got them at Buy 1 Take 1 @ 350 from Supra Fame. I must say, online shopping was quite satisfying, I know I'll do it again some time. Hehe. Can't wait to wear 'em all! :D

In other news:

It's back to dress-up weekdays in the office, but of course, we won't settle for looking dull and uptight. I decided to challenge myself with 27 different looks that would qualify in our dress-up rule, without sacrificing being fab.

Just to give a general idea what are the do's and don'ts during dress-up days, let me enumerate some of the general mandates:

  • No plain tees. Jackets or blazers must be worn on top if T-shirts are worn.
  • No leggings (except for preggies) and jeans. Slacks and skirts are preferred.
  • No sleeveless and anything revealing. Dresses must be at least 3 inches above the kneecap or longer.
  • Shoes must have at least an inch of heels. (But our team leader told me that flats are acceptable for closed shoes)
So here's my first look - 27 Dress-Ups 01: Pegging Prim and Proper
I've worn this dress as a top before, and now I decided to "set all its colors free." Teehee! I paired it with a knit cardigan and my vintage beige shoes to create a preppy chick look.
The vintage necklace and Asian-inspired cuff added a trinket-load of fun flair to the look.

Of course, the printed sunnies top it all off to give off a cool, stylish vibe. Comfort and style will always be my main considerations in my looks. And...
Bottom line is: whatever you wear, JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT! :D

Retro-esque Chic

Another quite simple solution to a dull or simple dress is adding a unique accent to it, like a belt, and maybe pulling a cardigan or blazer over it – voila! There’s chic for you.
I was trying to find a great belt that would make the dress more flattering and I ended up experimenting with this long (as in fits-my-waistline long) studded bowtie necklace. It was quite a lucky, stylish discovery!
Going for a whole conservative (‘cause the dress without any cover is quite revealing in the upper torso area and I had to meet my college professor in the university then) yet cool and still casual look (‘cause I was going out with friends after), I slipped on this vintage Benetton denim jacket.
Hunny “dressed up” that day, too, ‘cause we don’t see each other regularly like before and he wanted to be “gwapo” in one of our little day dates. That was the day I “pegged” that we were Lovechic-like. Hehe!
Hunny stylishly rides his purple Mio in this vintage helmet his dad (whom we concluded has the best tastes in accessories from shoes to sunnies) got from Amazon.
The geeky glasses are all his idea. He says he’s Effren – Clark “Effren” (his funny mocking joke for “a friend,” as Superman claims who he is when Lois asks) Kent.

Incorporating Vintage in Casual

I’m so in love with style with contemporary takes on vintage. Incorporating vintage pieces like adorable “old school” shoes and classic tops into outfits and yielding great looks just prove the timeless appeal of some elements in fashion.
That crisp top is fairly dull and simple despite the pleats and soft plaid pattern, so I wore a chain necklace* with a hanging bead detail for an extra flair.
*A simple DIY necklace I made from the chain of a headband and the excess length of a bead necklace
I adorned those thrifted high-waist Gap shorts with a lovely brown tool belt to mix an earthy blend of colors.
I found this pair of shoes in our old closet and it completes the whole “modernly vintage” look.

Day Out: Going Vintage and Zark's Ultimate Burger

I'm back! (: And to celebrate my return, this blog will both feature fashion and food! And some personal bits as well!

Last Wednesday was such a bizzy day out for me. I went to the university library to study for the board exams tomorrow. Twas one of my last study days. Wuhoo! Excited to get it over with! Teehee!

Then, I went to our college and received the delivery of my last baby as the school publication editor-in-chief, the Lampara magazine of the Nursing Journal. Of course, as per request of my RLE (duty) group mates, I took photos with all my babies!
Forgive my goofy face. Was just sooo excited to finally have em all. Hihi!
One broadsheet, one journal, one magazine and three folios - one hell of a year!
Next, I was off to meet with my hunny to accompany him to the doctor (an accomplishment after all the nagging I did just so he would get the check-up already.) He claimed that the look I pulled off that day was "pang-mayaman." I went for a vintage and classy chic vibe. What do you think?

That vintage top is actually a dress tucked in a pair of Bayo trousers that I folded for cooler feel.
I was able to scavenge that vintage necklace in my mom's collection. Since it was originally too long, I removed some of its length with pliers. Don't be afraid to do DIYs every now and then!
I found those precious shoes hung in Rob Ermita's department store. For 250 bucks, it's a pair that can make any outfit chic.

After that, my friends and I had our much-awaited Zark's escapade in Taft. I never expected that a burger meal would ever be satisfying for my rice-is-what-fills-me stomach, but Zark's surely turned that idea around.

My choice: Zark's Ultimate Burger - A hefty beef patty with lettuce, tomatoes and - wait for it - BACON, glazed with cheese and sandwiched by yummy soft buns. With monster fries and iced on the side, the meal totaled only 150 bucks!
One of my friends attempted the Jawbreaker challenge - attempt being the operative word. Why? Well...
This is Zark's Jawbreaker, a three-pattied concoction of high protein and greasy goodness. You can enjoy the meal without any time limit for 250 bucks (with bottomless iced tea already!)

I can't imagine how people can chow down this monster meal in 5 frickin minutes, but there's a whole wall of people who were able to do it! If you accomplish the challenge, you get the meal, worth 300 pesos (cause it has a bigger serving of fries), for FREE! and you also get a shirt and your proud photo on the wall.

Lastly, I and my bestie, Martin went on to the Nursing Journal general assembly, where they ('cause I couldn't handle another bite after that hefty Zark's meal) feasted on our favorite Noodle King garlic wings and bihon, and Calda Pizza's 36-inch Quattro Stagione - both must-try local fastfoods, I tell you! More on these two greats later!

As a resolve, I've decided to be "more personal" in this blog, like in this post. I also tried starting anew with another blog, The Manila Spectator, but I'm thinking of reverting everything back here. Hopefully, since the board exams will be over soon, I'll have more time to update this blog and come up with exciting posts and even contests and giveaways, so stay tuned!

Cheers to a new beginning!

Grad Photo Concepts

Graduation photo-taking is a little under a month away and I haven't decided on my final concepts yet.

Surely, I'll have a "fashion" shot. And I'll give all my convincing powers into having the folks pay for the package with a "creative" shot.

SO WHAT WILL I WEAR?

For the fashion, I was thinking of a more vintage look, something to this effect:

A dress like this, my dream polka dot dress with peter pan collars, would be perfect. And those adorable wedges too. (Tricia Gosingtiao @Lookbook)

High-waist shorts and a crisp vintage top would be very tasteful. (Kryz Uy @Lookbook)

And of course, Blair's in my top choices.

If only I can find that stunning dress... And that to-die-for cape...
And yes, I'm also thinking of posing as the Constance queen B!

Those dresses would also be perfect!
And this look by Serena in the GG pilot is also in my choices. It's a basic sailor look, and I already have the shirt. Minus the jacket idonlikeit.

And I'm also considering an old Hollywood concept!

A Manilyn Monroe look with those gorgeous locks would be fabulous.

And definitely, an Audrey Hepburn look would be soooo epic.

The classiness would just be so gorg...

Sooo... What do you think? (:
